Amid criticism by Opposition leaders over the plight of migrant workers, the Centre on Saturday said that India's response to Covid-19 has been ‘pre-emptive, pro-active and graded’. Brushing aside the charge that the 21-day lockdown was announced without any planning, triggering a major crisis for migrant workers and people who live on daily incomes, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry said in a statement, that the government had already put in place a ‘comprehensive response system’ at the borders of the country, much before the World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus as a public health emergency on January 30.
