With onions prices touching ₹140 in some parts of the country, it's not surprising thieves struck this shop in West Bengal's East Midnapore and made off with the pricey vegetable. To this shopkeeper's dismay when he opened his shop on Tuesday, thieves had stolen several sacks containing onions but left the cash box intact. According to him, the thieves had escaped with onions worth ₹50,000, besides some garlic and ginger.
Meanwhile, onions worth ₹20 lakhs are missing in Madhya Pradesh. A truck on the way from Nashik to Gorakhpur carrying onions has been reported missing. A complaint has been filed the Nashik trader against the Shivpuri based transporter.
