International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach stated that the Tokyo Games would have to be cancelled if the event cannot be held in 2021 as well because of the the Covid-19 pandemic. In an interview to BBC, he said that you can't change the entire sports schedule of all the major federations worldwide every year. Bach added that the athletes too can't be kept in uncertainty. The Tokyo Games were originally scheduled to start from July this year but were postponed to 2021 due to the rising fear of the virus. However, Japan's Medical Association had earlier warned that it would be exceedingly difficult to hold the Games next year as well if a coronavirus vaccine had not been found.
