'Not one more murder': outcry over woman's murder in Mexico

Feb 15, 2020 17:05 IST

In Mexico City, dozens of activists, led by women, held a protest in front of the presidential palace over the gruesome murder of a 25-year-old woman was killed by the man she lived with. Chants of 'not one more murder' echoed with red paint being thrown on the ornate palace door. The slain woman Ingrid Escamilla was found dead by officers at an apartment. Her live-in partner also removed her organs and skinned parts of her body, dumping some of her organs in a sewer drain in a bid to hide evidence of the murder. President Lopez Obrador assured the protestors of punishing the guilty. Amnesty International reports that in the first nine months of 2019 there were 748 victims of femicide in the country.
