No IPL means no salaries for cricketers

Apr 01, 2020 12:57 IST

As the future of the 13th edition of Indian Premier League looks uncertain, the cricketers participating are set to lose huge salaries due to the resulting financial stress that the board might face because of the COVID-19 pandemic. A BCCI official explained that 15% of the player's salary is paid before the league starts, 65% during the tournament, and the rest 20% is credited after IPL gets over. The Indian Cricketers Association President Ashok Malhotra said that if there is no IPL at all, it will be difficult for the teams to pay salaries. Meanwhile, BCCI is still figuring out an alternate window as it seems next to impossible to host a smaller IPL in May.
