Convict in the Nirbhaya rape case, Vinay Kumar Sharma on Wednesday filed a mercy petition asking for his capital punishment to be changed to a life term. Vinay Sharma, along with Mukesh Kumar Singh, Pawan Gupta and Akshay have been sentenced to death for brutally raping and killing a medical student in Delhi on December 16, 2012. Another convict, who was a minor at the time fo the crime, was sent to a correctional centre and has been released after he had served his sentence. The sixth accused hanged himself to death during the trial. The four convicts are set to be hanged on the 1st of February at 6 am.
