New York has declared a climate emergency
New York has officially become the first American city with more than a million residents, to declare a climate emergency. The move is an effort to get both local communities and authorities work together to combat climate change. The largest city in the US with a population of over 8.6 million, New York's City Council passed a bill on 27th of June referring to several extreme weather events caused by rising temperatures making it clear that the planet is "too hot to be a safe environment."
