New ingestible pill could potentially track ulcers and cancer

Jan 31, 2019 12:17 IST

Engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have created an 'ingestible pill' which enters the stomach and swells up to the size of a soft ping-pong ball, tracking ulcers, stomach cancer and other stomach-related troubles. The pill, which has a sensor attached, tracks the temperature of the stomach for about 30 days and can be removed by drinking a calcium solution, which helps it shrink. The pill is made of two types of hydrogels.
