New gene detected that causes breast cancer to spread

Nov 21, 2020 11:38 IST

Researchers at the University of Virginia Cancer Center have discovered the gene that causes Triple-negative breast cancer to spread. The team found the gene TRIM37 responsible for the cancer to spread in the body and resist treatment by chemotherapy. The team is in the process of testing a new therapy in mouse models that could potentially target the gene and prevent the spread of the disease by using nano particles to block the gene. The approach, though in early stages, has offered positive results.
