Need ₹3,000 crore by June: Poonawalla on scaling up vaccine production

Apr 06, 2021 23:38 IST | By Editorji News Desk

The Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla on Tuesday told NDTV that his firm needed ₹3,000 crore by June to scale up production of vaccine.

He said his Pune-based firm is supplying vaccine in India at approximately ₹150-160 while the average price is around ₹1,500. He said due to the Modi government's request, SII is providing at subsidised rates and the firm is making making profits but not super profits, which is key to re-investing.

Poonawalla said the SII has so far given around 100 million doses to India and exported 60 million - but is "still short of being able to supply every Indian" who needs the vaccine.
