Near-perfect remains of 'master and a slave' discovered in Pompeii

Dec 01, 2020 10:45 IST

The skeletal remains of what is believed to have been a rich man and his male slave fleeing the volcanic eruption of Vesuvius nearly 2,000 years ago have been discovered in Pompeii, officials at the archaeological park said on Saturday. Pompeii officials said the two men apparently escaped the initial fall of ash, then succumbed to a powerful volcanic blast that took place the following day. While excavations continue at the site near Naples, tourists are currently barred from the archaeological park under national anti-Covid-19 measures.
