NCW: domestic violence cases rising since lockdown

Apr 02, 2020 14:56 IST

The National Commission for Women has received over 250 complaints since the countrywide lockdown was imposed to control the spread of coronavirus. Out of these 69 were cases of domestic violence, which the NCW says has been increasing every day. NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said the number of cases of domestic violence must be much higher but the women are scared to complain due to constant presence of their abuser at home. She added that because of the lockdown, women are not able to reach out to the police.
