NCRB: crime against Dalit women went up 7.3% in 2019

The latest data published by the National Crime Records Bureau for 2019 threw up some grim statistics, showing why Uttar Pradesh remains the state where most crimes against women take place. The data showed that crimes against women has gone up by 7.3% in 2019 vs 2018, crimes against Dalits also went up 7.3% during the same period. The Hathras victim was a Dalit and a woman. According to the NCRB data, Uttar Pradesh accounted for 14.7% of all registered crimes against women with 59,853 cases. The state also recorded the maximum number of cases against Scheduled Castes or Dalits, that is 11,829 cases or 25.8% of the cases reported nationwide. In terms of the number of rapes against Dalit women, Uttar Pradesh ranks second after Rajasthan.

National
