The book marks the first time that Shakespeare's plays were organised as comedies, tragedies and histories. Without it, some of his most famous lines would've gone missing.
Called The First Folio, it was bought by Stephan Loewentheil, an American private collector and the founder of the 19th Century Rare Book and Photograph Shop on the east coast, United States.
The book with 36 plays set a new world record for any printed work of literature. Additionally, it also broke the previous record for a Shakespeare First Folio that sold for a whopping $6.16 million in 2001, the auction house said.
