Muslim law board tells SC: women free to enter mosques

Jan 29, 2020 22:46 IST

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has said it supports the entry of women inside mosques, telling the Supreme Court that Islam neither restricts women from entering mosques, nor praying there. However, it has added that Islam doesn’t require women to pray in Friday congregations, and that the Muslim Law Board could not enforce any rules on mosques. The Muslim law Board was replying to a PIL demanding equal access for women in mosques and equal rights to pray, as guaranteed by the Constitution.
