Mumbai's Western Railway sees 25% drop in commuters

Mar 19, 2020 15:55 IST

As Maharashtra saw an increase in the number of positive coronavirus cases, Mumbai's Western Railway saw a 25% drop in commuters on Tuesday. 32.60 lakh passengers travelled on their suburban trains on Tuesday as compared to 40.75 lakh on Monday, according to a spokesperson of the Western Railway. While the government does not want to halt the suburban train services, they have appealed to people to avoid any non-essential travel. The Railways also announced a hike in platform tickets to avoid overcrowding.
