Pednekar began her career as a nurse and was later elected Mumbai mayor unopposed in 2019. During her visit to the hospital, she interacted with the corona warriors and college students asking them to be resilient in the fight against the pandemic and reminding them that she is one among them. The 56-year-old had played a key role in organising a camp for media persons in Mumbai and put herself into quarantine when some of them tested positive. However, after two of her Covid-19 tests were negative, she decided to head out to boost the morale of healthcare workers.
