Mobile internet, messaging services withdrawn in Meghalaya

Dec 13, 2019 09:42 IST

The Meghalaya government on Thursday withdrew mobile Internet and messaging services across the state for the next 48 hours due to deteriorating law and order situation triggered by protests over contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill. The district administration in the state capital Shillong also clamped curfew in areas under two police stations after protesters torched and vandalised vehicles on Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma postponed a scheduled meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah as his cabinet colleagues failed to reach the Guwahati Airport to board a plane to Delhi.
