Union Home Minister Amit Shah while addressing a rally in Karaikal ahead of the Puducherry elections on April 6, ridiculed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for saying there was no "dedicated" fisheries ministry, and pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had set it up two years ago. Shah alleged that Gandhi was on "vacation" when the NDA set it up in 2019. ‘ I want to know from people whether they want a leader who doesn't know that Department of Fisheries has been in existence for 2 years," Shah said. Shah also highlighted the various initiatives taken by the Modi government for the welfare of the fishermen community.
