Six time World Champion Mary Kom has confirmed her place in at the upcoming Olympic qualifiers in February as she beat compatriot Nikhat Zareen 9-1 in the 51kg category by a split decision, at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Stadium.
The London Olympic medallist was set to represent India at the qualifiers. However, Zareen demanded that a fair trial should take place. Nikhat had a point to prove and the two pugilist clashed on Saturday, after which the 36-year-old veteran used all her experience to thwart the challenger, booking a place in the qualifiers.
