Maruti to pull plug on diesel cars on waning demand: Report

Marut Suzuki is planning to shut down its diesel engine assembly plant in Gurugram. The Suzuki Moto Corp unit is likely to convert the diesel engine line to produce petrol engines, according to The Mint. The move comes following the waning demand for diesel vehicles in India which will sharply decline after BS IV emission norms come into force from April 1, 2020. The report adds that the automaker also plans to phase out the 1.3 litre diesel engine and replace it with a 1.5 litre diesel engine developed in-house by Suzuki.
