Aug 01, 2019 19:49 IST

Former Maldives vice-president Ahmed Adeeb was detained in Tuticorin on Thursday by Indian authorities after a tip off. According to NDTV, he was held by intelligence agency officials while aboard a small ship on suspicion of illegal entry into the country and is now being questioned. Police sources told NDTV, that Adeeb has said he wants to seek political asylum in India due to the political situation back home. Adeeb was the youngest vice-president of the island country in 2015. The same year, he was sacked after being arrested in connection with a bomb attack targeting then president Abdullah Yameen.
