August target for India trial of Oxford Covid vaccine

The Pune-based Serum Institute of India will produce one billion doses of the coronavirus vaccine being developed by Oxford that has shown promise in early tests. Human trials for the vaccine candidate in India are likely to start in August this year, Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawala told the Hindustan Times. He added that the company plans to produce a billion doses of the Oxford vaccine over the next one year. The Serum Institute of India has entered a manufacturing partnership with AstraZeneca to produce the vaccine in India, he added.
