Madras HC refuses publishing-ban on its oral observations against EC

The Madras High Court has refused to restrain media from publishing oral observations made by the it while pulling the Election Commission for the surge in Covid-19 cases.

The court rejected repeated requests made by the Election Commission of India to bar the media from reporting oral observations.

While hearing a suo motu PIL, the court had reportedly held ECI 'responsible' for the Covid-19 situation and said that the ECI 'should be put up for murder charges'.

The advocate, arguing on behalf of the ECI said that police complaints were being filed against the poll body citing 'criminal offence'. To which the HC replied court are here to see if any frivolous complaint has been filed against the EC.
