Amid the spike in coronavirus cases in the past few days, lockdown in Maharashtra's Amravati and Achalpur has been extended till March 8. Maharashtra continued to report the highest daily new cases at 8,333 in 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry announced on Saturday. The extension of lockdown comes a week after a total lockdown of seven days was imposed in Amravati city and Achalpur town on February 21. Meanwhile, Anjangaon Surji village has been declared a containment zone. Mumbai, which was once a Covid hotspot of the state, has also started to witness a slight increase in daily cases, recording over 1,000 daily infections for the past three days.
