Come February and you may no more be able to buy more than one bottle of alcohol from duty-free shops at airports. According to reports, the Commerce Ministry has recommended restricting the purchase of tax-free alcohol to just one bottle at duty-free shops, in an effort to reduce import of non-essential goods. The ministry has also recommended that purchase of cigarette cartons at duty-free shops be prohibited. These recommendations are part of proposals made by the ministry for the forthcoming Budget. Currently, inbound international passengers are allowed to buy two litres of alcohol and a carton of cigarette from duty-free shops.
