Ellenborough Lewis, the koala who was rescued from the Oxley Highway by a passerby after suffering massive burns in the Australian bushfire, has passed away. The dramatic rescue by Toni Doherty went viral a few days ago, after she gave it water and wrapped it in her shirt. But it wasn't a happy ending as many had desired to see. The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital, where Lewis was receiving treatment, announced that the koala was put to sleep as its burns got worse.
