Lettuce grown in space is nutritious and safe to eat: NASA

Between 2014 and 2016, astronauts grew lettuce on-board the International Space Station as part of the Vegetable Production Systems project. According to researchers from NASA, the red romaine lettuce is in fact more nutritious than the lettuce grown on Earth and is absolutely safe for consumption. The study published in the journal Frontiers In Plant Science reveals that the red lettuce also tastes awesome. Astronauts usually live on processed, pre-packaged space rations such as fruits and nuts but this comes as a welcome change.
