Day 1 of the 1st practice game before the long tour of England belonged to Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul. Playing against County XI in Durham, the Indians were without the services of Captain Virat Kohli and his deputy Ajinkya Rahane who missed out due to injuries.

In their absence, Rohit Sharma led the side and scored 9 runs while opening the innings. Mayank Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari and Cheteshwar Pujara all got good starts but were dismissed in their 20s.

KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja then dropped the anchor and rescued India with some gritty knocks. While Rahul scored 101 and retired soon after, Jadeja was dismissed for 75. In the end, Indians reached 306/9 at stumps on Day 1.
