Kerala, Punjab CMs say they won’t implement CAB

Dec 13, 2019 09:42 IST

Amid violent protests in Assam, Chief Ministers of two Opposition-ruled states have said they will not implement the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill in their states. Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh outrightly rejected the imposition of the bill, saying how can a large section of the population be left out from the protection they have been getting since India was declared as a ‘sovereign, socialist, secular, and a democratic republic’. Speaking to the media, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan called the Bill unconstitutional and blamed the Centre of trying to divide India on religious lines. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already she will not allow CAB or NRC in Bengal.
