Karnataka politics: Congress says won't declare CM candidate

Jul 21, 2021 21:11 IST | By Editorji News Desk

The Congress party in-charge of Karnataka, Randeep Singh Surjewala on Wednesday announced that Siddaramaiah and state Congress chief DK Shivakumar will work together and neither will be projected as a Chief Ministerial candidate.

The decision followed the eruption of internal fighting between their two camps over who would be the leader.  Rahul Gandhi had to finally intervene and decide that no one will be given preference.

The Congress said that the MLAs will choose a Chief Minister after the assembly election.

The party's Karnataka unit has so far not projected anyone as a Chief Ministerial candidate unlike in the run up to elections in Punjab where Amarinder Singh's name was announced.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa flexed his muscle amid replacement buzz and flaunted support of mutts and seers to send a message to the BJP leadership.
