Kargil war veteran declared ‘foreigner’, detained in Assam

May 31, 2019 19:20 IST

Mohammed Sanaullah, who was the part of the Indian Army during the historic Kargil War in 1999 and served the forces for more than three decades, was sent to a detention camp in Goalpara after he was declared a ‘foreigner’ by a Foreigners' Tribunal in Assam on Tuesday. Family members of the 52-year-old retired honorary captain have now approached the Gauhati High Court, less than 24 hours after he was detained. Ironically, Sanaullah was serving as an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in the Assam Police Border Organisation, and was on the job of picking up suspected foreigners and serving them notices till last year.
