According to a new study published in the Journal JAMA Urology, a “Western” diet heavy in processed foods could contribute to not only lower sperm quantity but also impact the quality. The study examined dietary habits as part of ongoing research to learn why sperm count, viability and testosterone have plummeted in the past several decades. From 1973 to 2011 in Western countries, sperm count has declined by 50% to 60%, researchers have noted. They studied almost 3000 men, who completed a survey of their eating habits along with routine physical examinations. "This is the largest study to examine the diet pattern with men’s testicular function,” study author Feiby Nassan from Harvard University, told CNN.
