A new report by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) reveals that almost three billion animals were harmed or killed by wildfires in Australia in the past year and experts believe that it was the "worst wildlife disaster in modern history". Birds, frogs, mammals and reptiles died from both the fires as well as the loss of habitat. Researchers believed that koalas and wallabies were among those species that needed the most help. Environmentalists have now urged Australia to strengthen conservation laws in order to protect the wildlife in the region.
