Thirteen constituencies are voting today in Jharkhand in the first of the five-phased state elections. The voting began at 7 am and will conclude at 3 pm. The ruling BJP, which is contesting for the first time without an ally, is facing a tough challenge from the united opposition parties. The ruling party is contesting on 12 out of 13 seats in the first phase. The rest of the four phases for the 81-member assembly will be held on December 7, 12, 16 and 20. The votes will be counted on December 23.
