It was a joyous moment when a jazz band performed, outside the New Orleans East Hospital, to honour the contributions made by medics. Healthcare works waved handkerchiefs and hoisted umbrellas while dancing and clapping. The Stimulus Serenade was an initiative of Emily Bauman, a New York resident in collaboration with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra to give moral support to frontline workers. The idea struck Baumen as she not only wanted to support hospital workers but also provide a paying gig to musicians whose jobs have been snatched amid the pandemic. The artistic director of the orchestra shared that the 20 members of the team are now unemployed due to business closures.
