Japan witnesses a unique deer phenomenon every summer

Aug 28, 2019 13:04 IST

The Nara park in the city of Nara in Japan witnesses a unique phenomenon every summer. Home to over 1,000 deer, at sunset, almost half of the deer population comes together for an hour and sits together. The phenomenon is called shikadamari or “deer gathering spot" and once this relaxation period is over, they part ways. The reasons for shikadamari remain unclear but if you're visiting Japan in the summer months, you must plan to watch the stunning sight.
