Italy urged to stop using Malaysia as a plastic dump yard

Feb 11, 2020 10:38 IST

Global environmental non-profit organization Greenpeace has found that almost 2,880 tonnes of plastic waste was exported to Malaysia between January and September last year from Italy. The country has been urged to stop using Malaysia as a dumping ground. The investigation by Greenpeace exposed the environmental and health implications of Malaysia being used as waste ground for unrecyclable plastic. This 'illegal trafficking of plastic' could cost the country a lot, if Italy does not take measures to stop these activities, experts from the organisation said.
