Italy to allow tourism from June 3, hoteliers protest restrictions

May 17, 2020 10:49 IST

Italy has announced the reopening of regional and international borders from June 3 as luxury hotels sit empty for the first time in decades with the coronavirus pandemic gripping the country's tourism and hospitality industries. The government will eliminate the 14-day quarantine for international arrivals in a bid to revive its tourism industry. Foreign visitors are the mainstay of iconic, high-priced hotels, but Italy remains cautious in Covid-19 containment measures, as one of the world's hardest-hit countries. On another end of the battle, Italian Hospitality Network held spontaneous protests in several Italian cities amid concerns that restrictions brought in to tackle the new coronavirus will negatively affect their income.
