According to Daily Mail UK, China might be close to banning the consumption of dog meat for good approving a directive to classify dogs as companion animals instead of farm animals. The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has called for a change in 'some traditional customs about dogs' ahead of the controversial Yulin dog meat festival, where dogs are butchered and eaten. The move could potentially prevent around 10 million dogs being killed for their meat every year in the country.
