An Iranian nuclear scientist described as the guru of Iran’s nuclear programme, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh has been gunned down in the street in a town near Tehran. Four assailants opened fire after witnesses heard an explosion. Efforts to resuscitate Fakhrizadeh failed, and his bodyguard was also wounded. Iran’s foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif immediately identified Israel as the likely culprit. Condemning the attack, the Foreign Minister called on international community to end their shameful double standards and condemn this act of state terror. An adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, vowed that the country would retaliate against the perpetrators.
