International Day of Democracy 2021: With a government of the people, by the people and for the people; India is the largest democracy in the world. As a democracy, it is essential to uphold the values of freedom, human rights and also periodic and genuine elections by universal suffrage.

Observed on 15th September every year, International Day of Democracy aims at providing an opportunity to review the state of democracy in the world. Adopted in 2007, the day came into being through a resolution passed by the UN General Assembly.

With the pandemic creating havoc across the world, the day becomes even more significant. The Covid-19 crisis has resulted in several challenges for governments and people the world over. International day of democracy aims at urging nations to maintain equality and respect the rights of the people irrespective of the crisis at hand.
