At 61%, Delhi records drop in turnout for the first time since 1998

The overall voter turnout in Delhi on Saturday registered a drop compared to the 2015 assembly election. The total turnout in Delhi was recorded at 61% till 10:20pm according to the Election Commission, a decline over the 2015 polls when 67.12% of voters turned up to vote. This is the first time since 1998 when Delhi has witnessed a drop in voter turnout over a previous assembly election. Since 1998, Delhi had seen an increase in the overall voter turnout in each successive election. This time across constituencies, Matia Mahal in Central Delhi registered the highest voter turnout of 68.36% while Bawana in North Delhi saw the lowest turnout at 41.95%. The results of the triangular contest between the AAP, BJP and Congress will be out on February 11.
