Karnataka: school kids quizzed 5th time over anti-CAA play

Feb 05, 2020 10:15 IST

School children in Karnataka's Bidar have been interrogated by the police for the 5th time for participating in a school play critical of the new citizenship law. The school's headmistress and a student's widowed mother were arrested on Thursday over charges of sedition for some lines the child said in the play. A sedition case has also been registered against the school. A group of parents in Bengaluru have written an open letter alleging "illegal and inhumane actions of the Bidar police" and cited the violation of the Juvenile Justice Act (2015) as school children, some as young as 9, were interrogated without their parents present, for hours at a stretch.
