Artist Nalini Malani is the first Indian to win the Joan Miró Prize, a highly prestigious honour in the art world. Awarded every two years by the Joan Miró Foundation and La Caixa Foundation, the honour comprises of a cash prize of about ₹53 lakhs along with a cover of the production cost of a solo exhibition of the work by the winning artist at Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona in 2020. Malani is an alumnus of the JJ School Of Arts in Mumbai and is renowned for her immersive body of work presented through complex and intriguing installations about the silenced and the dispossessed all over the world, most particularly women.
