Amid the nationwide lockdown to combat the coronavirus pandemic, the Defence Ministry announced on Thursday that it is mobilising ex-servicemen to assist the state and district administrations wherever required. The ministry said in a statement, Rajya Sainik Boards, Zila Sainik Boards can identify and mobilise maximum ex-servicemen volunteers to assist the state and district administration in performing public outreach activities such as contact tracing, community surveillance, management of quarantine facilities. The NCC has also offered the services of its cadets from across the country to join India's fight against coronavirus. So far nearly 47,000 senior NCC cadets have volunteered pan-India. The tasks envisaged for the cadets include, manning of helpline or call centres; distribution of relief materials, medicines, food and other essential commodities; community assistance; data management and queue and traffic management.
