Dr S Padmavati, an eminent cardiologist, a Padma Vibhushan awardee and the director of Delhi’s National Heart Institute, passed away after battling Covid-19 at the age of 103. She was undergoing treatment for the deadly disease at the National Heart Institute for the last 11 days.
Known as the 'God Mother of Cardiology' she was working 12 hours a day and 5 days a week at NHI till 2015.
In 1954, she also founded North India’s first Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at Lady Hardinge Medical College.
