India on Friday became the second country in the world after the US to record nine million Covid-19 cases. The country tally crossed the grim landmark with an increase of 45,882 infections reported in the last 24 hours, data from the health ministry showed. On the brighter side, it took 22 days for the tally to increase from the eight-million mark, making it the second slowest rise of one million infections in the country. The country also reported 584 deaths in 24 hours taking the toll to 1,32,162. More than 84 lakh people has so far recovered from the deadly contagion.
