India's fiscal deficit continued to widen in February touching 134.2% of the budgeted target for the current fiscal year. According to govt data, the gap between expenditure and revenue stood at ₹8.51 lakh crore at the end of February, compared to the budgeted estimate of ₹6.34 lakh crore for 2018-2019. The deficit is at its highest in at least a decade and higher than last fiscal year when the deficit stood at 120% of the budget target.
