Former Maldivian vice president, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor, was deported to his country in the early hours of Saturday. Ghafoor had clandestinely fled the Maldives and entered India on a boat, on Thursday. He was deported following the Centre’s decision to reject his plea for political asylum. The MEA had said that Ghafoor didn’t have documents to enter India. He had been living under house arrest in the Maldives, where he has been charged in a corruption case.
